FAQs

Frequently Asked Questions?

Mould is a type of fungus that can be found on surfaces and in the air within most of the environment.

Most people are concerned with mould when it is visible or there is an odour present within the dwelling, however you don’t have to see it or smell it for it to be a problem.

When humidity, moisture or dampness are found to be in a building, it creates optimal conditions for supporting microbial fungal growth.

In a water damaged building or home (WBD), it only takes 48 hours for mould spores to begin to germinate and spread fungal particulates throughout the built environment. (EPA 2022)

Exposure to mould may cause adverse health issues to some people who may be sensitive to mould.

Mould can trigger nasal congestion, sneezing, cough, wheeze and respiratory infections and worsen asthma and allergic conditions.

Infants, elderly and people with weakened immune systems, allergies, severe asthma or lung diseases are more susceptible to mould exposure. (DOH 2022)

Mould testing is the process of identifying the source of the mould growth, which involves looking where the mould is growing and also behind or around areas where mould is visible.

Air and surface samples are then sent to a microbiology lab to test for fungual spore and quantities.

Mould remediation is creating a plan to identify, remove and prevent mould from growing back and returning the structure to its pre-damaged condition.

Our reports provide a detailed analysis of the inspection at the subject site. This includes a detailed report containing the source of the mould, photos, the mould genera and quantities found during the sampling.

Recommended strategies are also provided to address the mould problems.
